Laura Cooper Studio Visit

artist, Laura Cooper, on ladder installing artwork

LA-based artist, Laura Cooper, welcomed us into her studio on a recent Sunday, where her multi-media works sat and hung in varying degrees of completion. Her and her daughter Lily worked on sewing a wall hanging while she told us how her painting education at California Institute of the Arts morphed into 3-dimensional sculpture via landscape design. No matter the medium, she works with lines—weaving them on a loom, sewing them into patterns on fabric, casting them with papier-mâché.

Laura is currently a professor at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and Lily is finishing her last year of high school in Los Angeles. In the pictures below, Laura wears the Denim Jumpsuit, the Oat Shirt Coat, and the Alexis Dress; and Lily wears the Eve Top and Navy Floods.
